Liquid nitrogen cryostat that surrounds the RiKon-5 CEMS detector with a nitrogen chamber walled in cellular material. If the detector is not heated the nitrogen charge lasts several hours, and a level sensor can be fitted for automatic refilling. Gamma radiation enters through a window in the bottom and reaches the detector after passing only a short distance of foam plastic, while gas and high voltage are fed in through openings in the top cover.
Version of WissEl's data acquisition system built around the RiKon-5 CEMS detector rather than a transmission proportional counter, so that conversion electron Mossbauer spectra can be recorded. The chain runs from the detector through the PEA-6A preamplifier and amplifier and the AMP-1000 main amplifier into the CMCA-550 acquisition module.
Controller that governs the nitrogen level in the RiKon-5-LNC liquid nitrogen cryostat and manages the supply of liquid nitrogen to it. An AA118 germanium diode serves as level sensor and a PT100 thermo resistor inside the RiKon-5 CEMS detector as temperature sensor, giving a working span from close to liquid nitrogen temperature up to roughly room temperature. A built-in EUROTHERM 3216 module carries the temperature control functions, set from push buttons on the front panel or read and adjusted remotely over the RS 232C serial interface with optional software. Filling status is shown on a three colour LED and an adjusting screw sets the maximum permitted nitrogen transfer time before the alarm trips.
