- MCD: Thin Cylinder Unit — EDIBON: MCD is used to study the stresses in a thin walled cylinder under internal pressure. Strain gauges bonded to the cylinder are read as pressure is raised, allowing hoop and longitudinal stresses to be found for open and closed end conditions.
- MCPG: Thick Walled Cylinder Unit — EDIBON: MCPG is used to measure the stress distribution through the wall of a thick cylinder under internal pressure. Strain gauges at different radii are read as pressure is applied, and the results are compared with the Lame equations.
- STH: Stress Hypotheses Unit — EDIBON: STH allows combined loading of a thin walled tube so that different failure theories can be compared. Internal pressure, axial load and torque are applied together and the resulting strains are measured with bonded gauges.
- MEPE: Simple Stability Problems Study Unit — EDIBON: MEPE is used to study the elastic stability of struts and frames. Different bar arrangements are loaded until buckling occurs, so students can measure the critical load and compare it with the theoretical value for each support condition.
- MDLE: Unit for studying Methods to Determine the Elastic Line — EDIBON: MDLE is used to determine the deflected shape of loaded beams. Dial gauges along the span record deflection under point and distributed loads, so the elastic line can be plotted and compared with results from analytical methods.
- SSM: Unit to Study Stress on a Membrane — EDIBON: SSM is used to measure the stresses in a thin membrane under pressure. Strain gauges on the membrane are read as pressure is raised, so radial and tangential stresses can be found and compared with plate and shell theory.
- MVV: Unsymmetrical Cantilever Unit — EDIBON: MVV is used to study the bending of a cantilever whose section is not symmetrical about the load plane. The beam can be rotated about its axis and deflection measured in two directions, showing how the principal axes govern the deflected shape.
- MDB: Deflection of Curved Bars Unit — EDIBON: MDB is used to measure the deflection of curved members such as circular rings, semicircular arches and quadrant bars. Loads are applied and dial gauges record the movement, allowing results to be compared with strain energy methods.
- MFV: Beam Deflection Unit — EDIBON: MFV is used to measure the deflection of beams under point and distributed loads. Supports can be moved to give simply supported, cantilever and fixed arrangements, and dial gauges record deflection for comparison with calculated values.
- MFLT: Strut Buckling Unit — EDIBON: MFLT is used to find the buckling load of slender struts. Specimens of different length and end fixing are loaded in compression until they buckle, so the measured critical load can be compared with the Euler prediction.
- MEBM: Euler Buckling Modes Unit — EDIBON: MEBM allows the higher buckling modes of a slender strut to be produced and observed. Intermediate supports are added along the specimen so the second and third mode shapes appear, with the corresponding critical loads measured.
- MUP: Universal Buckling Unit — EDIBON: MUP is a test frame for buckling experiments on struts, frames and beams. It accepts specimens of different length and end condition and applies axial load through a screw mechanism, with load and deflection measured during the test.
- MMF: Shear Force and Bending Momentum Unit — EDIBON: MMF is used to measure shear force and bending moment in a simply supported beam. The beam is cut at a chosen section and the internal force is balanced by a load cell, so measured values can be compared with the calculated diagrams.
- EFO: Photoelasticity Unit — EDIBON: EFO is a transmission polariscope for photoelastic stress analysis. Loaded transparent models are viewed under polarised light so the fringe pattern shows the stress distribution and any stress concentrations. Computer controlled versions, EFOC and EFOV, are also published.
- MEGE: Strain Gauge Training Unit — EDIBON: MEGE teaches the use of bonded resistance strain gauges. Students connect gauges in quarter, half and full bridge arrangements on loaded specimens and read the output, learning about bridge balancing and temperature compensation.
- MFGE: Unit for Determining the Gauge Factor of Strain Gauges — EDIBON: MFGE is used to determine the gauge factor of bonded strain gauges. A cantilever carrying the gauge is deflected by a known amount and the bridge output is measured, so the relationship between strain and resistance change can be found.
- PSD: Photoelastic Stress Demonstration Unit — EDIBON: PSD is a compact polariscope for demonstrating photoelastic stress patterns. Transparent models are loaded in a small frame and viewed under polarised light so fringe patterns and stress concentrations can be shown to a class.
