A spray drier for producing powders from aqueous emulsions, solutions, suspensions and colloids. A peristaltic pump feeds the liquid to a nozzle in the drying chamber, so students can relate inlet temperature, feed rate and atomisation to powder yield and moisture.
A bench top cooling tower in which heated water is pumped to distribution manifolds at the top of the packing while air is drawn upwards. Students measure approach, range and cooling capacity and construct the energy and mass balance for the tower.
A unit that combines spray drying and spray chilling in one chamber, so liquids can be turned into powders either by evaporating the solvent or by solidifying a melt. It allows the two operating modes to be compared on the same feed material.
