The slow variation of the vibration spectrum is analysed to determine the remaining life cycle of a roller bearing and decide on its replacement. From the spectral distribution, accurate conclusions can be drawn about the type of defect and its location.

Two shafts of different lengths make up the Set of Rotating Shaft with Crank, "MDU-SRS": the short shaft simulates a projecting shaft end, with its load transmitted through the belt drive of the Set of Belt Drive, "MDU-SBD". The long shaft, meanwhile, is used with a protective bearing from the Set of Elastic Shafts, "MDU-SES", and a flywheel, in order to study a shaft fissure in the case of an elastic rotor.
