Transfusion-associated graft-versus-host disease (TA-GvHD) is a rare but usually fatal complication of blood transfusion, and irradiating blood products before transfusion prevents it. Rad-sure indicators are an FDA 510(k) cleared medical device giving positive visual verification that irradiation reached the minimum specified dose: before irradiation the word NOT is visible and the indicator reads NOT Irradiated, and afterwards the word NOT is obscured so the indicator reads IRRADIATED. They are made from gafchromic film, which Ashland calls the world's highest resolution dosimeter, and work with both gamma and x-ray sources. Ashland describes them as the standard for blood irradiation indicators for 25+ years.

Waiting for scheduled maintenance to reveal a failing blood irradiator can be too late, so Ashland offers dose-Map as a routine three step check that anyone able to operate a blood irradiator can carry out. The cassette arrives from Ashland, goes into the canister for a normal cycle, and is posted back for analysis. Ashland then reads the film inside and issues a report carrying a dose distribution chart and a colour-coded dose contour plot showing how absorbed dose is distributed through the canister.
Ashland describes custom cuts as a service: any Gafchromic film can be cut to the size, shape and specification a department needs, arriving ready for use straight out of the box. Six cuts are currently published with their own product codes, spanning EBT3, MD-V3 and LD-V1 grades in both imperial and metric sizes. Sizes outside the published list are cut to order on request.
A self-developing radiochromic film for machine quality assurance ahead of patient treatment planning, covering IMRT, VMAT, brachytherapy, Star Shot, Picket Fence and flatness and symmetry tests. Ashland states a dose range of 0.2 Gy to 10 Gy and an energy range from 100 keV into the MV range.
