A transparent packed column that can be run with water, air or both together to simulate an absorption column. It is used to measure pressure drop against gas and liquid rates, to observe loading and flooding and to compare different packing materials.
A fixed bed column for demonstrating gas adsorption. Students follow the movement of the mass transfer zone through the bed, record breakthrough curves and study how flow rate, concentration and bed depth change the adsorption capacity obtained.
A unit in which a heating element mounted horizontally inside a glass chamber boils a refrigerant, so the boiling curve can be traced. Students observe convective, nucleate and film boiling, locate the critical heat flux and measure condensation on the cooling coil.
