MIF is used to determine the moment of inertia of a flywheel and to study angular acceleration. A falling mass on a cord drives the flywheel while fall time and drop height are recorded. It also allows bearing friction losses to be estimated.
MDFC demonstrates the Coriolis effect on a rotating system. Water is fed through radial tubes on a rotating arm so the deflecting force acting on a mass moving in a rotating frame can be observed and measured. It is used in dynamics teaching.
MRYE1 demonstrates the wheel and axle as a simple machine. Load and effort cords are wound on two drums of different diameter fixed to a common shaft, so mechanical advantage, velocity ratio and efficiency can be measured in introductory statics teaching.
