MFBS is used to measure the member forces in a simple pin jointed frame. Loads are applied at the joints and the tension or compression in each bar is read, so results can be checked against the method of joints.

MFCS1 allows several plane truss configurations to be built and loaded. Member forces are measured with load cells or spring balances so students can compare experimental values with those from the method of sections and joints.
MART is used to study the statically determinate three hinged arch. Reactions and horizontal thrust are measured for loads at different positions along the span, and influence lines are then plotted from the results.
MFCS2 is used to study a statically indeterminate truss. Redundant members are added or released while member forces are measured, showing how the load path changes and how indeterminate structures are analysed.
