MEER is used to observe the whirling of rotating shafts. Shafts of different diameter and end fixing are run up to and through their critical speed so the first and higher whirl modes can be seen and the speeds recorded.

MBD is a demonstration unit for the slider crank mechanism used in engines and compressors. Turning the crank moves a slider in a guide so displacement, velocity and acceleration of the slider can be plotted against crank angle. Stroke can be changed on the crank.
MVCC is a computer controlled rig for finding the critical speed of rotating shafts. Shaft speed is ramped through resonance while deflection is recorded, so measured whirling speeds can be compared with calculated values for different shaft supports.
MYE demonstrates the Scotch yoke, a mechanism that converts rotation into pure simple harmonic linear motion. Students record slider displacement against crank angle and compare the measured trace with the sine curve predicted by theory.
