Teaches commissioning and use of frequency controllers with three-phase induction machines. Students set the drive parameters, run the motor over a speed range and observe how frequency and voltage together determine speed and torque.
Teaches the use of soft starters with three-phase machines. The application takes optional starter types, including an electronic soft starter module, so students compare starting current and torque against direct on line starting.
Covers the manoeuvres carried out with separately excited DC motors, wired by the student with commutators, timers and contactors. Starting, reversing and speed control by armature and by field are all studied on the modular rack.
