Wavelength decides what the material absorbs and pulse duration decides the heat affected zone. Together they rule out most of the catalogue before price is discussed. A selection guide for industry and research buyers.
Bangladesh's manufacturing sector, from RMG accessories and pharmaceutical packaging to electronics and university research, increasingly demands micron-level precision that conventional mechanical cutting cannot deliver. The catalogue now runs to ninety-nine items, and only a minority of them are cutting machines. Choosing well means starting from the workpiece rather than the machine list.
Laser cutting offers a non-contact, heat-affected-zone-minimised process that produces burr-free edges on metals, polymers, ceramics and composites. Unlike mechanical punching or waterjet cutting, laser systems require no tooling changes, can switch between profiles in milliseconds via CNC, and achieve tolerances below ±0.05 mm. For Bangladesh's export-oriented industries, where dimensional consistency directly affects buyer acceptance, this translates to fewer rejects, faster changeovers and lower total cost per part.
The honest caveat is that a laser is not always the cheaper answer. For high-volume identical parts in soft sheet, a progressive die still wins on cost per piece. The laser wins where the mix changes often, where the feature is too small or too fragile for a tool, or where the material cannot tolerate mechanical contact at all. If your part number list is short and stable, price the die before the laser.
A laser does nothing until the material absorbs it, which is why wavelength eliminates more of the catalogue than power does.
The second axis is time. A continuous or long-pulse beam melts and blows material away, which is fast and leaves a recast layer. Shorten the pulse and less heat has time to conduct into the surrounding material, until at picosecond and femtosecond durations the material is removed largely before it can heat, which is what people mean by cold ablation.
That matters when the heat affected zone is the specification. A stent strut, a thin-film stack on glass, a polymer medical component or a pharmaceutical foil cannot tolerate a recast layer and a thermal gradient. Ultrafast is also slower per unit volume removed and more expensive per watt. Specify it where the edge quality justifies it, and use a nanosecond or continuous source everywhere else in the same factory.
Production sites usually want an integrated machine with motion, enclosure, extraction and controls in one purchase order. Research groups usually want a source they can put on their own optical table. Both routes exist in the same catalogue, and confusing them at budget stage is a common and expensive error, because a bare source needs a stage, an enclosure, safety interlocks and beam delivery that nobody costed.

Coherent laser systems require a clean, temperature-controlled environment (18 to 25°C, below 60% RH), a dedicated electrical supply (typically 3-phase 380 V / 50 Hz), chilled water cooling for high-power fibre systems, and Class 1 laser safety enclosures with interlocked access panels. Two of those are routinely underestimated in Dhaka. Humidity control matters as much as temperature, because condensation on optics during a monsoon night in an unconditioned bay does damage that no service contract covers. And the chilled water loop is a machine in its own right, with its own power draw, its own maintenance and its own failure mode if the site loses supply mid-cut.
High-power industrial lasers (Class 3B and Class 4) are subject to import permit requirements in Bangladesh. Vvon Technologies manages the full import process including HS code classification, NBR customs clearance, and where applicable, coordination with the Chief Controller of Imports & Exports (CCIE) for import permit clearance, as required for Class 3B and Class 4 laser equipment under NBR and Customs regulations. Coherent systems use proprietary laser sources, optics and motion controllers. Assist gas is the running cost that surprises buyers. Nitrogen for oxide-free cutting is consumed continuously at high flow, and a factory that has costed the machine but not the gas will find cut quality quietly degrading as operators throttle it back. On-site nitrogen generation is often the answer at that point, and it is cheaper to plan for at the quotation stage than to retrofit.
